Mission Statement

Vet Jams unites military veterans through the power of live music—creating safe, supportive spaces where shared rhythm builds camaraderie, combats isolation, and shines a spotlight on mental health. We champion the message: it’s okay to seek help.

Core Messages

  • Music Builds Community
At Vet Jams events, vets step onto the stage, pick up instruments, and create shared musical experiences. Through collective sound, veterans bond with fellow servicemembers, rediscovering the trust and belonging often lost in civilian life.

  • Mental Health Awareness Through Music
Music as therapy is recognized as an effective, nonverbal approach to easing PTSD, anxiety, depression, and trauma — helping veterans regulate emotions, improve mood, and reconnect with positive memories.

  • Normalize Therapy
We encourage all veterans and their loved ones to explore mental health support options—from talk therapy to music-centered therapies—reinforcing the message: seeking help is a strength, not a weakness.

Impact Highlights

  • Evidence-based Benefits of Music Therapy
Studies show music therapy significantly reduces PTSD symptoms, anxiety, depression, and improves cognitive focus and social connection.

  • Community Success Stories
Peer groups facilitated through music help combat isolation. Offering Veterans a place to feel welcome, among friends, and a space to talk and listen helps

Program Structure

  1. Skill-building Jams & Performances
Regular workshops and open mic nights offer vets musical instruction and supportive performance opportunities—building both skills and confidence.

  2. Group Therapy-Inspired Sessions
After-jam circles provide a platform for veterans to reflect on emotions stirred by music and share experiences in a peer-led format.

  3. Mental Health Outreach
At our events we inform attendees about local therapists, wellness resources, and different forms of therapy — including how to access them affordably. Specifically, we raise awareness about the Vets Center in New Orleans — a free, local resource for any veteran of the armed services to receive therapy quickly and easily.

Vet Jams: Healing Through Harmony

Vet Jams is a veteran-led nonprofit that uses the power of music to build community, raise mental health awareness, and break down the stigma around seeking therapy. Through jam sessions, open mics, and music therapy-informed events, Vet Jams creates a safe and supportive space where veterans connect, express themselves, and heal together.

At the heart of Vet Jams is a simple but powerful belief: music fosters belonging. Many veterans struggle with isolation and the invisible wounds of service. By picking up an instrument or joining a rhythm, they rediscover the camaraderie they once had in uniform—this time, through sound.

Each event combines live music with mental health outreach. Attendees can talk openly, share experiences, and learn about therapy in a space that feels familiar and non-judgmental. Whether someone is battling PTSD, depression, or just looking for connection, Vet Jams reminds them that it's okay to ask for help—and that healing doesn't have to happen alone.

With every song, Vet Jams builds a chorus of support. It’s not just about music. It’s about making noise for mental health, community, and the courage it takes to say, “I need help.” And that’s a message worth amplifying.
